Presto Magic is Closing

Very sad news for the magic community - Presto Magic is closing it's doors.

Fredrick "Presto" Broder has had a magic shop in Long Beach for 35 years. At age 80 he has decided to retire. The lease on the store will be up the end of February. Presto has decided not to renew.

Presto Magic is the last of the "old time" magic shops, with stuff piled floor to ceiling and wall to wall. Each box is labeled with its own hand-made sign.

Hundreds and hundreds of signs.

Walking into Presto Magic is like walking into a magic shop on Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter films.

While the exact last day has not been determined as of today, the decision to close has been made. If you want to experience something special or just want to say goodbye, now is the time to visit Presto Magic.

  1. Another sad chapter to add to the lack of society's imagination book.

Congrats on the retirement Presto and HAppy Trails.

    1. Thanks John This is a difficult time. Presto is trying to negotiate a 90 day extension. But so far no word.

  3. Another era and in another time. Presto's shop had an air of a time when I was a child and visited my local magic shop (and parted with most of my allowance) the smell of old books and the sound of laughter if others were there. Greeted like an old friend presto never forgot that the real magic was in brining people together and believing in infinite possibilities. Fair well dear friend, you'll be dearly missed.
