All About The Magic Castle

I have been a member of the Academy of Magical Arts (Magic Castle) for many years. Here is the low down on The Magic Castle!

The Magic Castle is the private clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc, a very special organization devoted to the advancement of the ancient art of magic. The purpose of The Academy is to encourage and promote public interest in the art of magic with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an art form, entertainment medium, and hobby. Beginning with a charter membership of 150, the Academy has grown into a world-renowned fraternal organization with a membership of nearly 5,000.

The Magic Castle began its life as a private home built in 1909 by banker and real estate magnate Rollin B. Lane. Mr. Lane owned much of what is now Hollywood, dreaming of turning his land into orange groves, farms and ranches.
But a severe drought brought an end to his dreams and orange blossoms never filled the valley.

After the Lane family moved away in the 1940s, the mansion was divided into a multi-family home, then became a home for the elderly, and was finally transformed into a maze of small apartments. By 1960, the fate of the Mansion was uncertain. Then Milt Larsen met the owner, Thomas O. Glover.

The Lane mansion would become Magic Castle In September of 1961. The Magic Castle opened its doors at 5 p.m. on January 2, 1963. Today more than four decades later, the Castle has become the world-famous "home" to the Academy of Magical Arts, Inc.and their invited guests.
The Magic Castle is an exclusive private club. You must be a member or have a guest card from a member to gain admittance.

Reservations for dinner are required, and we suggest that you call at least one week in advance for week days or at least six to eight weeks in advance for a Friday or Saturday evening.

Your night at the Magic Castle would not be complete without magic! The Magic Castle hosts five different magic shows in three showrooms.

The Close-up Gallery presents masters of the art of close-up magic, in the smallest of the Castle theaters (seating only 22 guests). Two different performers appear in the Close-up Gallery: the first at 7:00 then as required, and the second at 10:00, then as required. Because of the size of this theater, we recommend that you get in line at least one-half hour before your desired show.

The Parlour of Prestidigitation recreates the Victorian experience of the "parlour" (living room) magician. Your magician will appear at 7:30, 8:45, 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 and 12:00 p.m.

The Palace of Mystery hosts grand illusion and other stage performers. One show is presented in the Palace at three different times: 8:30, 10:00, and 11:15. Dinner guests have preferential seating in the Palace of Mystery.

Parking at the Magic Castle is provided by a valet service ($8.00 per vehicle).

Guests may arrive at the Magic Castle as early as 5:00PM; the club closes at 1:00AM.
